Storage

Keeping your coffee beans fresh is key to a delicious cup of coffee. Think of your beans like little vampires – they hate light, air, heat, and moisture. So, your job is to protect them from these four flavor-killers.

First up, air. Oxygen is the enemy of freshness. An opaque, airtight container is your best friend. Skip the fancy glass jars unless they're stored in a dark cupboard. For ultimate freshness, a vacuum-sealed container or a bag with a one-way valve (like the kind we sell our coffee in) is ideal.

Next, light. Sunlight and even bright kitchen lights can degrade coffee quickly. Always store your beans in a dark place – inside a cupboard or pantry is perfect.

Then there's heat. Heat accelerates the staling process. Keep your beans away from the stove, oven, or any heat-producing appliances. Room temperature is generally fine, but cooler is better.  But not too cool (see next).

Finally, moisture. Coffee beans are porous and will absorb odors and moisture, which can ruin their flavor. So, do not store them in the refridgerator or freezer as condensation is a huge risk. Stick to a cool, dry, dark spot, and your beans will thank you with every delicious cup

Next week, we'll talk about caffeine levels from different types of brewing methods - how to get more or less. Until then, we hope you're having great moments with locally roasted, fresh coffee. Cheers!
